What is Awakening, and how to navigate it?

I like the term 'Awakening' to describe our spiritual evolution. It evokes a feeling of freshness and an unexplored reality, like the effortless blossoming of a flower.

The territory of awakening is vast, to walk as an unfolding movement, with no final aim or specific identity to attain, as it extends beyond what we imagine possible.

Awakening is the process of becoming aware and conscious, yet it cannot be adequately described in words because it is an experience.

Many spiritual teachers speak of the embodiment of Consciousness, a Presence of Being we hold as a vibration.

My reflection here is not meant to be intellectual, but to offer support in navigating a process that can be challenging, because suffering is a natural part of it.

In fact, peeling off layers of unconsciousness, when we shift limiting patterns, let go of rigid ego structures, or integrate hidden aspects of our Soul, can be uncomfortable.

Ego death is essential if we wish to open to the fluidity of the field of awareness, and many negative mental and emotional states arise to be transformed, such as fear, anxiety, doubt, lack of hope and loneliness.

I have observed that four elements can support us during the journey.

1.      Breath. Awareness of breath is an essential element in our awakening toolkit. When we observe inhalation and exhalation in the body, we slow down our brainwaves, relax our nervous system, and can feel our energy as tension or emotions. Conscious breathing helps us accept the discomfort of painful feelings and thoughts, which then naturally flow and shift.

2.      Stillness. Just as in winter nature has a period of rest and hibernation before rebirth in spring, we need time to honour our inner silence, turning inward to receive healing and guidance. When we allow stillness, we access the deep space of quiet within ourselves and remain steady through life’s fluctuations.

3.      Kindred Souls and Spirit Allies. When we gather in sacred space with fellow seekers and commune with high-vibrational Light Beings, we create a magnified energy field. In sharing this space, we feel seen in our truth, receive support, learn from one another, and most of all, we heal and transform deeply because of the intensified spiritual presence.

4.      A map of the territory. During my personal journey, I found it helpful to understand the energy body and its dynamics, to recognise the inner archetypes of the psyche, and to understand the cosmology of the spiritual realms. Although we want to experience life directly rather than through mental concepts, these maps offer structure and guidance for the journey.

Affirmations for you:

My feelings are normal.

I trust life and flow with it.

I am safe and protected.
